You may expose your company to substantial
risk without a website usage agreement in place. What kind and
the extent of risk depends on the purpose and possible uses
of your site.
- Is it used to sell products or services?
- Can you download software?
- Domestically and internationally?
- Is it used to advertise or for other marketing?
- Does it allow users to post material or messages?
- Does it collect data about users?
- Does it link to other parties sites?
All of these items should be addressed in agreements which
should state how customers can use your site, products and
services and what they should expect, that your liability
for their usage of products, services, links and the site
is limited, that they consent to your collection of data from
them, that they are responsible for materials they post and
other matters, and so on.
